RIP Dave Boon

It is with great sadness I learned of the passing of Dave Boon two weeks ago. Some of you may remember Dave from his forty odd years service to the club as a committee man and as chairman. Others may not be aware of the major contribution Dave made to the club as it is today. Dave was one of the leaders in the battle we had to get the Welwyn Hatfield council to build Stanborough Lake in the first place, and later, to convince them that the lake should be a lake for fishing as well as sailing. Without Dave, Stanborough Lake might well have been for sailing only instead of the premium fishing venue it is today. But besides that, Dave was the man always there at working parties, always attending meetings, always there to lend a hand, and always with a grin on his face.

But for me personally, I remember him as a fourteen year old sitting waiting for the coach in the early hours of a Sunday morning, with his inseparable friend Bob North beside the road at the Blue Star garage in Potters Bar. I was a raw twelve year old going on my first coach trip. I came to know Dave very well over the next twenty or so years. I valued him as a very good friend and an extremely good angler.

The club has lost one of its most loyal and hardworking servants.

Rest in peace, Dave

Looks like all the hard work done down Holwell Hyde by Dave and all involved over the year has really paid off, the two new swims down the beach end look great! Most of the rubbish has been cleared too now, so If you could all remember to take your rubbish home with your when leaving your fishing sessions it would be much appreciated. Let's keep all our waters clean and tidy please! Thank you for your cooperation.
